Crawford International School has been rated as one of the top ten leading schools in Kenya by the Excelligent Magazine, an authoritative educational magazine which covers the best quality education from all over the world. The institution becomes the first Crawford School beyond the borders of South Africa to achieve such recognition which was celebrated with great pride by the staff and students.
The magazine researches and highlights institutional groups that are well respected and known for their progressive world class cutting edge educational programs, extension program, school life experiences and leadership. Crawford’s academic excellence and achievements highly contributed to the listing as well as being only one of two schools in East Africa to earn Microsoft Showcase School status.
The architectural design of the school is modern and contemporary, befitting the 21-century educational approach, which characterises and differentiates Crawford International School in the Kenyan environment, where parents place a high premium on education. On arrival, the first attraction is the machine cut bricks, which were creatively, used “incorrectly” allowing the walls to have a rough uneven look. Crawford’s motto of “Every child is a masterpiece” connects well with every uniquely shaped brick. The openness of the cobble paved piazza and glassed multipurpose hall gives a feeling of openness and freedom which is further enhanced by the heated 25m swimming pool and sports fields visible through the glass doors. The flower boxes and trees in the piazza allow for a splash of colour against the grey stonewalls – stunning!
However, a school is not just a building – it interacts between the community of children, parents and teachers. The adoption of the school values: Diversity, Integrity, Valour, Empathy, Respect, Service, and Enthusiasm are the cornerstones of school life in this progressive environment where a mix of international students gather each day. Education is never a static process; Crawford constantly reassesses curriculum, and teaching approaches, adapting to the children needs, whilst aligning with global goals and trends.
Recognized as a trailblazer in innovative and forward-thinking education, every student is acknowledged and offered the opportunity to excel. The digital age demands collaboration across networks and leading by influence. Crawford International School has the status of a Microsoft Digital Showcase school – one of two such schools in East Africa. Teachers are trained as Microsoft Innovative Experts, which has allowed the school to adapt overnight to online teaching when the schools closed in Kenya in March 2020. As the students have been allowed to return to in person teaching, teachers have adapted to livestreaming from their classrooms affording parents the choice of their children to experience a hybrid-teaching model. Those students wanting to remain online can simultaneously experience the in-person option.
